Trenton – In response to Governor Murphy signing S-1177 into law, Board Chairman, Dr. Stavros Christoudias, issued the following statement on behalf of the organization:
“We are pleased to offer bill sponsors Senator Joe Lagana (D-38) and Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin (D-19), and Governor Murphy our heartfelt gratitude for passing and signing into law a bill that will streamline the arbitration process for out of network health claims. As our health care community and physicians continue to recover from the devastating impact of the COVID 19 pandemic, the beleaguered physician community who are small businesses welcomes this administrative relief. This new law simplifies and increases transparency in the process by which physicians can work with insurers to receive payment for healthcare services that have been rendered to patients.
This new law strikes the right balance between protecting patients from being susceptible to surprise insurance denials, while ensuring physicians are offered an opportunity to receive fair payment and in a timely manner. The most important relationship in healthcare is the one between the doctor and their patients and on behalf of our physician and patient members we applaud the Governor and legislative leadership for working to preserve and protect that sacred bond. “
